Description of the Nielsen Fixaton exercise in the Opto vision training app for iPad. Designed to improve eye hand coordination and peripheral awareness using smooth tracing and fast tapping skills.
Developed exclusively for Opto. Available now for iPad!
The Nielsen Fixation activity is designed to improve eye hand coordination and peripheral awareness. Both smooth tracing and fast tapping skills are developed during this exercise.
Required hardware: none
Modes: Tracing, Tapping
Tracing Mode: With eyes fixed on the target in the center of the screen, the user is instructed to draw a circle between the two lines using his/her finger. A screen capture of the line drawn is recorded in the reports for later reference.
Tapping Mode: With eyes fixed on the target in the center of the screen, the user must tap the peripheral target that turns red. Targets will turn red one at a time, changing when the correct target is successfully tapped. Dots are recorded for every tap in order for the vision specialist to analyze the results.
Screen captures of the patient's circle drawing (tracing mode) or tap attempts (tapping mode) will be saved in the reports in order for the vision specialist to review. Like all activities in Opto, the report also includes the date, and duration of the exercise. A patient assessment is also saved if the user is signed into his/her personal profile.
